Finding Focus
Finding is discovering, hunting, locating. The opposite of distraction. Distraction is your denial of the reality of your priorities. It reveals what you care about more rather than what you need to get done to drive your progress forward. If you drift off regularly, you aren’t seeing the value of your work sitting in front of you.
“We are in order when the actions we deem appropriate produce the results wear at. We regard such outcomes positively, indicating as they do, first, that we have moved closer to what we desire, and second, that our theory about how the world works remains acceptably accurate.”
-Beyond Order; J.B. Peterson
If you are as addicted to your phone as I am, throw it into another room. All of it will help your brain calm down and be more focused when it’s time to work. Make room for solitude and undivided personal attention. People feel better in places where they can be inspired. Schedule around the times you think best.
We are constantly being asked to simultaneously resist and embrace distractions both physically and digitally. Throw in a little meditation, yoga, or a run to clear your head. By dedicating an hour or two towards self-care, you may get more done in those few precious hours than you do all day.
